White Bread (Homemade)

WHITE BREAD Tutorial for those of you who are stuck home in Coronavirus quarantine and need some bread! We are all stuck at home here in pa, and rather than risk going out to get some bread, I found an easy recipe that tastes really good and makes two full loaves. I'm sharing it here with you.

RECIPE:

6-7 cups all purpose/bread flour (if using self rising flour, omit salt)

3 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp salt

2 tbsp shortening

2 packages of regular or quick active dry yeast ( or 4.5 tsp)

2 1/4 cup very warm water (120-130degrees)

2 tbsp butter, melted, if desired

*Mix 3.5 cup flour, sugar, salt, shortening, yeast in large bowl. Add water. Beat with electric mixer on low for 1 minute. Scrape bowl frequently. Beat on medium for 1 minute, scrape sides frequently. Stir in remaining dough 1 cup at a time till dough is easy to handle.

*Place dough on floured surface, and knead for 10 minutes. Then place dough in greased bowl. Turn dough around till also lightly covered in grease. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and set in warm place to rise for 40-60 minutes (double in size)

*Grease with shortening 2 full size loaf pans

*Gently push dough down to deflate. Divide dough in half. Flatten with hands or rolling pin into 18"x9" rectangles. Roll longways, pinching off edge and ends, fold ends under and place "log" into loaf pan, seam side down. Brush loaves with melted butter, cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise in warm place again, about 30 -50 min.

*Lower rack in oven from center. Heat to 425degrees

*Bake 25-30 minutes, till golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. Remove from oven, remove from pans onto cooling sheet. Brush with more melted butter (if desired) and cool
